Kyla MacGinnis is a Clinical Nurse Specialist (MN) with extensive experience in community health research, facilitation, and project management. She is a professor at the University of Ottawa, teaching Community Health Nursing, and also serves as a Clinical Instructor at Algonquin College in the Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing programs. As an advocate for preventative and barrier-free healthcare, Kyla co-founded BuildAble in 2013; an award-winning accessible design and renovation company dedicated to helping people with disabilities or mobility challenges to remain safely in their homes. To date, BuildAble is the only nurse-led accessibility contractor in Canada.
Kyla is also the founder of the Adaptive Living Expo in Ottawa, an initiative that brings together experts, resources, and innovations to promote inclusive and accessible living environments. A passionate advocate for creating healthy, inclusive communities for seniors and those living with disabilities, Kyla has been instrumental in fostering cross-sector collaborations to address the health needs of these populations. She remains committed to principles of inclusion, accessibility, and sustainability - ensuring that everyone can thrive in environments that support their independence and well-being.
