Connecting the Capacity Assessment Communities of Canada

Nathan Spaling Founded the Capacity Clinic (Jan. 2021) and Co-Founded the Power of Attorney Registry (June 2018). Nathan is uniquely a registered social service worker and a lawyer. His goal is to reduce the fraud and misuse of substitute decision making documents in Canada.

He recognized the lack of resources available to help legal, financial, health care professionals to: (1) identify if a client lacked the ability to make certain decisions – such as sell/buy a house, instruct counsel, sign a Will, etc.; and (2) the bottlenecks that exist within current substitute decision making procedures.

Now their multidisciplinary team is connecting and empowering the various capacity assessment communities across Canada by providing access to: a common form for discussion regarding assessment standards of practice, creating a referral network, awareness/education campaigns and access to support through solutions (including their assessment practice management, power of attorney registry and their decision making capacity screening software (DecisionTracker)).
